Pet mat procurement

Pet mat procurement begins with the resting space and the finished dimensions required. Use a drawing when the mat needs to fit a particular location or enclosure.

Location and dimensions

Measure the intended resting area and mark any corners or edges that affect the fit. Ask for the proposed finished dimensions and a drawing or sample that uses your measurement references.

Care requirements

State the cleaning and care information your buyer needs. Request the material and construction details of the proposed mat, together with its care instructions, before selecting a sample for review.

Packing and presentation

Describe how the mat should be presented for sale or distribution. Ask for the proposed packing format and label details, then check whether the sample dimensions and presentation match the purchasing brief.

Identify the mat sample

Ask the supplier to label the sample reference against its finished dimensions and construction description. Mark any care or presentation questions raised during review. If the mat must fit an existing space, keep the location drawing with the sample comments and request clarification of any dimensional change before selecting the proposed item.

Match the mat review to its intended location

Describe where the pet mat will be placed and what activity the buyer expects there. A resting area, a carrier space and a floor location can raise different purchasing questions, so identify the intended placement in your own brief. Provide a sketch or measurements of the space and explain which edges or obstacles need to be considered. Ask for the proposed mat dimensions and shape before selecting a sample. If several placements are involved, distinguish them in the inquiry rather than using a single unspecified pet mat description.

Ask the supplier to describe the proposed surface, underside and edge construction, using photographs of the actual sample arrangement. State any handling preferences your team wants to review, such as moving the mat between locations or storing it between uses. Request care information for the offered construction and ask which parts, if any, are intended to be removed. Treat those details as questions about the proposal. Do not assume a pictured cover, backing or fastening is included unless the quotation and sample description identify it.

Prepare a review sheet for placement, handling and cleaning instructions. Have your reviewer compare the sample outline with the intended space and note any mismatch at corners, openings or access points. If the mat is to be moved frequently, ask the reviewer to assess that handling routine and record observations without converting them into a general durability claim. For care review, use the supplier's instructions applicable to the sample and keep a record of what was assessed. Ask for clarification before adopting a different cleaning method.

When ordering an assortment, map each mat variant to its intended location and accepted sample. Separate appearance choices from dimensions and construction so a new pattern does not silently replace a previously reviewed arrangement. Ask the supplier to identify any proposed change to the underside, edge or removable parts. Give your receiving team the sample photographs and size descriptions needed to compare the delivered assortment. If an alternative is offered, review it against the placement brief rather than accepting it solely because it carries the same general product name.

If the mat will sit inside another item, ask your reviewer to assess both the outline and access for removing it. Record the specific placement used in the sample review. Keep any dimensions supplied for the surrounding space with the mat reference so a revised shape can be compared without reconstructing the buyer's original placement requirements.
