Pet harness fit requirements

Pet harness fit requirements should use your own measurement method and size references. Send a marked measurement diagram so the requested fit can be discussed precisely.

Measurement method

Mark where each measurement is taken and state whether the value describes the animal or the finished harness. Ask for the proposed harness measurement chart using the same reference points.

Adjustment and closure

Describe the adjustment range you need the review to address and identify any closure preference. Request photographs or drawings of the proposed construction rather than selecting fit from a size label alone.

Size sample checks

List the sizes you wish to review and the measurements to check on each sample. Record comments on the fit and adjustment of the sample against the original diagram before agreeing to a size breakdown.

Control harness size revisions

Keep the measurement diagram with every size chart used during the inquiry. Ask the supplier to identify differences between the requested measurements and the proposed finished harness. If the adjustment or closure changes, request a revised chart and have your reviewer check the affected sizes rather than assuming the previous sample comments still apply.

Build a fit brief around the adjustment points

Start the harness discussion with the measurement method your team intends to use. Identify the points on the animal where each measurement is taken and provide a sketch if the names could be misunderstood. Ask the supplier to mark the corresponding areas on the proposed harness. A size label by itself does not answer your fit question. Request the dimensions and adjustment description associated with that label, then ask your reviewer to compare them with the measurements for the intended animals before choosing the sample sizes.

Describe the handling situation in which the harness will be put on and removed. Tell the supplier whether the buyer needs to assess access to a particular fastening or adjustment point. Request views of the open harness as well as the closed arrangement, and ask for the fitting instructions that accompany the proposed item. Where your assortment includes animals with different body shapes, provide separate fit records. Do not use an approved label from an earlier assortment as a substitute for reviewing a newly proposed shape or fastening arrangement.

Plan the sample review around observable fit decisions. Ask your reviewer to record which settings were used, where the harness sits and whether the proposed adjustment method can be operated as intended. Keep any movement review under the control of the person responsible for the animal. Request clarification of the intended attachment location and matching leash requirements before making a purchasing decision. If the supplier suggests another harness, ask what has changed in its shape, adjustment or fastening arrangement and repeat the relevant part of your review.

For the purchasing file, connect each accepted sample to its size description and fitting instructions. Record the colour or appearance selection separately from the fit decision so a cosmetic choice does not obscure a change in construction. Ask how the supplied assortment will identify the selected sizes and request a description of the labels to be included. If your retail team will explain fitting to end users, review that information alongside the sample. Resolve missing instructions and unclear size mappings before approving the harness assortment for your intended use.

For a range of harness sizes, ask the supplier to show where the adjustment method differs between proposals. Keep the reviewer observations for each fastening arrangement distinct. If instructions use an illustration, compare it with the actual sample and request correction of any mismatch before passing the fitting information to the team responsible for the selected assortment.
